Due to the increasing tendency of our young generation towards junk food and incessant use of mobile phone, a seminar was organised by Shri Ram Ashram Public School, The Mall ,Amritsar enlightening its young students of class 7th and 8th std about its harmful and long-lasting effects on our health. Parents were also invited to attend the session. Dr.Naresh Grover, a paediatrician along with his team Dr.Manmeet kaur Sodhi (Professor & Head of Department ,Paediatrics ,Government Medical College ,Amritsar) ,Dr Ridhi Khanna (Medical Dietician and Wellness expert),Dr.Sandeep Aggarwal(Assistant Professor Department Of Paediatrics Government Medical College,Amritsar) were invited in the School to enlighten the students about its detrimental effects. The Principal of the School Dr.Vinodita Sankhyan greeted them by presenting a bouquet to the whole team. Addressing the students,Dr.Manmeet Sodhi guided our young adolescents to restrict their screen time on mobile phones and television. The constant use of mobile phones effects our vision but also gives disturbed sleep, lack of focus and increases tension and anxiety. On the other hand Dr.Naresh Grover said that in today's time the trend of junk food is increasing day by day. One consumes it in no less time, at that time it tastes delicious but later it impacts our health negatively. Now days young children are suffering from diseases like diabetes ,sugar, thyroid and various other deficiencies. It leads to increase in obesity and weakens our immune system and physical strength. The President of the School Sh.Balbir Bajaj conveyed to the students that junk food not only hampers one's physical health but it is also harmful for mental health. These foods can eventually make the brain weak. He also advised the students to put a limit to the excessive use of mobile phones as it is not only harmful for the health but also leads to weak focus and passive mind. The Principal of the School Dr.Vinodita Sankhyan advised the students to refrain themselves from consuming junk food and shift their tastes and choices to a healthier food. She also added that we strive to provide healthy food to the students in the school canteen as far as possible.They should also adopt more productive ways to spend their leisure time qualitatively rather than indulging themselves in mobile phones.
